Maria Organic is committed to sustainable and fair trade fishing - The fish used in the brand's preserves is wild and fished in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of the Iberian Peninsula. Using the best organic ingredients and engaging traditional methods of manual production, they maintain the highest level of quality.
The brand's preserves have always been produced according to the traditional method, pre-cooking. Pre-cooking means that the fish is cooked before being placed in the can, as was done by the old ways. By using this method, they are able to prevent the release of water when cooking raw fish inside the can itself and that it ends up being retained in the can, making the topping sauce watery.
Each fish is handled by hand, trimmed and adjusted inside the can, a more time-consuming and labor-intensive process to ensure that each can is top shelf quality.
Skipjack tuna is used is it is not endangered.
